Time to focus
Over the years I’ve allowed myself the luxury of being distracted by ‘interesting’ projects. Sticking to just one thing has been what others do; I’ve preferred the freedom to explore new things. But now that has to change.
We’re now living in our new home, so we are no longer busy dealing with builders, architect and endlessly researching and buying fittings and fixtures. True we have a building plot in Norfolk to sell, but that is on good hands and little I can do will speed that process. Finally, I have time to focus.
Early April will see the publication of the book I went to university to write. It had been on my mind for decades, and the UEA’s Creative Writing MA gave me the stimulation and support I needed to finally make a start. This is the book that marks my emergence as a creative non-fiction author. This book, in which I follow in the footsteps of George Ewart Evans, is already attracting attention and I think will do well.
But it was five months ago that I conducted the first interview for my next book, and now I need to give that project the attention it deserves. The Unbound campaign, recruiting readers who will collectively fund its production, will launch in April, and I’ve yet to pitch the book to them.
The time has finally come, to become a full-time writer.
