Bright spark!
We’ve now been living in our new home for three months, and I’ve been checking our energy usage. We’re all electric, with an air source heat pump, solar panels and batteries which we top up in the middle of the night, when electricity is at its cheapest.
Over October, November and December we used £600 worth of electricity, and no oil or gas. That’s about a quarter of what it would have cost had we still been living in our previous home in Norfolk. Even better, we drive an electric car, and charge that here at home, so the £600 includes our road fuel too.
As the days get longer, and when we start getting more sunshine, I reckon we will be generating all the power we use, and perhaps even selling back to Octopus much of the electricity we’ll have bought over the winter.
One day, all new homes will perform as well as this one.
